I returned to Hungary and spent a night in beautiful Keszthely, a town on the southern reach of lake Balaton. Spring weather is in full gear. The town is still decked out from the big March 15 holiday, which commemorates the Hungarian revolution of 1848.

Hungary is a quiet, mellow place. It’s hard to imagine the kind of gung ho militarism and war fever that took over the former Yugoslav states happening here.
