Slovenia appears to be a mountain paradise – at least the part of the country that abuts the alps. I am staying in the beautiful Triglav National Park near Bled, in the northwestern corner of the country next to Italy and Austria. It’s the Julian Alps here.

This winter was not that good for snow, and there is hardly any skiing left at the cross country area in the park. But just enough to get out for my first day on skis this winter. The Russian biathlon team is here training, along with some other serious looking skiers. It is a world class biathlon venue, and it would be fun to see a race here with the screaming crowds.
