Sligo. What a place. After two days on the coast outside Sligo town, I will say this is one of my favorite spots in Ireland so far. The city (referred to as “Sligo town” to distinguish it from just “Sligo”, i.e., the county) is compact and well adapted to modernity. There is a theatre. The coast access is nice, and the surrounding countryside is very attractive. Though the place is abandoned right now, in the summer it must be an Irish version of Cape Cod. You could stay here for a week or month and not exhaust all the things to do.
