I notice a county theme developing here the last few days. Makes sense as I have been moving down the west coast. Today, after a little time in Sligo, the story was Mayo. My oh Mayo! Another stunning coastal county – with big mountains. And the third day of sun in a row.

And…and… they have a 42 KM dedicated bike path from Westport to Achill Island. That’s the spirit. Someone had a vision for an abandoned train line. The Great Western Greenway is a national treasure. Though I doubt many know about it.

Tonight I am staying in the world famous Old Monastery Hostel in Letterfrack. This place alone is worth a visit to Ireland and will require its own photo essay. But that’s for tomorrow’s post on Galway.
